A Blessing Journey In Lamma

  • Project started: July 2021
  • Target: Residents on Lamma
  • Expected beneficiaries: 1600 residents
  • Funded by: CIIF

The project is to establish a collaboration model of “Society, Welfare and Business” to jointly build a cross-sector platform to respond to the needs of residents on the Island. We aim to transform Islanders of different backgrounds into “Social Spots Volunteers” and “Physical and Spiritual Volunteers” through trainings. Assisting in the establishment of social spots, so that the Islanders can get relief from the stressful life, promote physical, mental, social and spiritual health, as well as to establish a network of mutual help among neighbours. The project also cooperates with the University of Hong Kong (HKU) to use the concept of “Time Bank” to establish a need-matching platform to encourage Islanders of different ages and ethnicities to contribute their talents and help establishing a relationship of mutual trust and mutual benefit among Islanders.

Project Details

  1. “Fragmented Time” Needs a Matching Platform: In collaboration with the University of Hong Kong’s “HINCare”, utilizing the “Hand in Hand” mobile application to implement a “Time Bank”, encouraging islanders of different ages and backgrounds to help each other out in daily life, compensating for each other’s shortcomings, thereby establishing a mutually beneficial relationship among the island residents. The plan will also deepen training to allow residents to manage the operation of the Time Bank themselves.
  2. Resident Gathering Points: Focusing on the interests of the islanders as an entry point, with the assistance of “Gathering Point Volunteers”, by regularly organizing exchange meetings, skill-sharing, and social activities, such as happy chair dance and storytelling events, etc., to establish gathering points on the island, allowing residents to get to know each other and gradually build neighborhood relationships.
  3. Physical, Mental, Social, and Spiritual Activities: Recruiting women and retirees on the island to participate in training to become “Physical, Mental, Social, and Spiritual Volunteers”, helping to design and host a variety of activities centered around physical, mental, social, and spiritual health, bringing islanders together, building mutual trust among each other, and also taking care of the residents’ mental health.
  4. Cross-sector Collaboration Platform: Connecting “community, welfare, business” partners, leveraging the expertise of different stakeholders to establish a cross-sector collaboration platform and referral mechanism, introducing external resources to meet the needs of the islanders.
