Hong Kong’s first Lamma Island picture book “The Home of Dreams” is priced at $80 per copy. HAC members or those who purchase more than 10 copies can enjoy a discounted price of $70 per copy. The book is available for sale at our centers or can be ordered through the link below. Quantities are limited, so purchase quickly.
The creation of “The Home of Dreams”: Since 1997, HAC has been offering services on Lamma Island and is still the only charity organization that provides community services to residents on the island. Over the years, we have witnessed the island’s diverse cultures and the deep community roots of families spanning generations. We wanted to document the unique local customs and atmosphere of Lamma Island, so we published Hong Kong’s first community picture book about Lamma Island, “The Home of Dreams”. The creative team consists of island residents of different ages, allowing children to share and genuinely communicate with their elders, promoting integration across generations.
Summary of “The Home of Dreams”: A young wild boar and its mother are foraging on the mountain, but the young boar, frightened by the many beasts on the mountain, decides to go down the mountain to find the “Home of Dreams”. It arrives at Yung Shue Wan Main Street, meets the kind and friendly residents of Lamma Island, and appreciates the unique scenery of the island. After witnessing all the local customs and atmosphere of Lamma Island, the young boar finally realizes that the “Home of Dreams” has always been very close.
Reasons to purchase “The Home of Dreams”: Every character that appears in “The Home of Dreams” is a real, flesh-and-blood person from the island, such as the “Lizard Uncle” who lets people take photos on Yung Shue Wan Main Street, and the “last hippie in Hong Kong” with long hair, etc. By reading this picture book, readers can follow in the footsteps of the young wild boar to understand the unique local customs and iconic landmarks of Lamma Island. We hope you purchase “The Home of Dreams” to share the story of Lamma Island with more people around you, thereby supporting the work of HAC.
Use of income from “The Home of Dreams”: All income will be used to promote intergenerational integration on Lamma Island, organize diverse activities centered on physical, mental, social, and spiritual health, to bring together island residents of all ages and establish harmonious relationships. In the future, more community picture books/life story picture books will be created to engage island residents in the creation of picture books, utilize community cultural history and life stories to promote intergenerational integration and cultural heritage, and enhance the public’s respect and inclusion of the elderly.
